Responsive design — why your site MUST work on a phone
In 2026, 72% of all internet traffic in Poland comes from mobile devices. If your website doesn’t look and work well on a phone, you’re losing 7 out of 10 prospective customers. Responsive design isn’t a luxury — it’s an absolute necessity.
What is responsive design?
Responsive design (RWD) is an approach where the website automatically adapts to the screen size: large monitor, laptop, tablet, smartphone. Same URL, same content, but a different layout on each device. Text is readable, buttons are tappable, images scale — without the need to pinch-zoom.
Why Google requires mobile-first
Since 2021 Google has used mobile-first indexing. That means Google evaluates your site based on its mobile version, not the desktop one. A site that looks great on desktop but breaks on a phone will be penalized with a lower position in search results. Simple: no RWD = lower Google ranking = fewer clients.
What happens when a site isn’t responsive
- Higher bounce rate: 53% of users abandon a page that loads longer than 3 seconds on mobile
- Lost conversions: Forms that are impossible to fill in on a phone = zero inquiries
- Poor impression: A site that “falls apart” on a phone looks unprofessional
- Lower Google ranking: Google has been penalizing non-RWD sites since 2021
How to check if your site is responsive
The simplest test: open your site on a phone. Do you have to zoom in? Are buttons tappable with your thumb? Is the text readable without zoom? Do the forms work? You can also use Google’s free tool: search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly — you paste a URL and receive a report.
Elements of good responsive design
- Flexible grid: Elements resize proportionally to the screen
- Scalable images: Photos adapt to the container width
- Readable typography: Minimum 16px on mobile, appropriate line-height
- Touch-friendly: Buttons at least 44×44px, ample spacing between tap targets
- Fast loading: Image compression, code minification, lazy loading
How much it costs to add responsiveness to an existing site
Retrofitting an existing non-responsive site costs 1,500–5,000 PLN — often more than building a new responsive one from scratch. That’s why, on a new site, responsive design should be the standard, not an add-on. At stronadlafirm.com every site is responsive from day one — it’s not an option, it’s the standard.
